As a part of our continuing efforts to always try to improve our systems and customer services, we have also looked at our own internal operations and assessed where we can improve what we are doing.
Over the course of this last year we looked in to our rubbish generation and waste disposal. We identified that we were effectively disposing of general waste, old furniture and recyclable products such as cardboard and plastic as efficiently as was possible, but there was a significant amount of flooring waste that we felt could be managed better.
As such, we sourced and joined the Recofloor Vinyl Off Cut Scheme. Originated by vinyl floor manufacturers Polyflor and Altro the scheme involves contractors saving all clean vinyl waste and off cuts in 250kg sacks and returning them to Recofloor at a fair charge per bag, so that the product can be effectively recycled into new vinyl products.
In the first six weeks of being in the scheme we have returned 1.0 TONNE of waste vinyl, equating to what will be in almost a six tonnes of recyclable waste over the first year. All good news in the larger attempt to help the planet.
Our next endeavour will be to try and find an effective way to dispose of clean carpet off cuts and short ends.
